Having not played for the previous two weekends - the St.Boswells match conceded as they couldn't raise a team and the Fauldhouse match cancelled due to their pitch being unfit due to the weather - Largo's 1st.XI cricketers were desperate to play their match against Westquarter and Reading on Saturday. With rain forecast for Friday evening and showers for Saturday the newly arrived covers were put in place on Friday afternoon to cover the immaculately prepared wicket. Saturday dawned dry and clear and as requested the opposition contacted at 10.00am to inform them that both the wicket and outfield were in good order and that the match was on. Over an hour later and with the Largo players on their way to East Drive W & R contacted Largo skipper Nicky Rintoul to concede the match as they could not field a team!! Frustration and annoyance knew no bounds!!
The 2nd.XI match in Edinburgh managed to at least get underway against "Old Contemptibles" before the heavens opened and the game was abandoned with Largo in difficulty at 12 for 2.
To round of the weekend's frustration the Sunday XI's match at a sundrenched East Drive against Broomhall was called off as Broomhall could not get a team together.
The league season finishes on Saturday with the 1sts. hoping that their match in Edinburgh against Kirk Brae will actually take place.
