Fresh from their dramatic win the previous Saturday against Falkland Largo's 1st XI cricketers faced 3rd in the league SMRH 2

Fresh from their dramatic win the previous Saturday against Falkland Largo's 1st XI cricketers, led by vice- captain Brent Bentley faced 3rd in the league SMRH 2 at an overcast East Drive, Upper Largo Bentley won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first.
Looking for an early breakthrough Largo opened with Aidan Brown and Stevie Warrender which Warrender achieved removing experienced opener Brown thanks to a sharp catch at point by Matt Baddeley. At the other end however big hitting opener Mourits after being dropped early in his innings was beginning to get going and some big “sixes”showed what a threat he was. However he and Armstrong were removed by the bustling, aggressive Warrender, Anderson taking a good catch to remove Mourits for 37. After 10 overs the score had moved quickly to 46 however Warrender had the top 3 batsman back in the pavilion with the game was very much in the balance.

Change bowlers Bentley and Matt Baddeley with their very accurate bowling built up the pressure keeping on top of the batsmen with both taking a wicket to leave SMRH on 65-5 at drinks(20 overs).

The drinks break brought the introduction of Alex Anderson returning to the side after some time out due to work commitments. He returned with a bang firstly removing the very talented and dangerous Burgess, Ian Brown holding a great catch on the boundary, and then continued to take 4 more wickets in quick order bringing the SMRH innings to an abrupt close on 71 all out after only 27 overs. This was a great display by Largo with Andersons 5 for 1 the highlight. This was the first “5 fer” of the season by a largo bowler.

With his usual opening partner, club captain Nicky Rintoul absent Andy Warrender opened with Anderson to chase down the relatively small score required for the win.. With both batsmen playing some fine cricket shots and scoring easily even the most pessimistic Largo supporter had their nerves calmed as the pair progressed almost benignly towards the target. One Anderson shot resulted in what is probably the first ever 8 scored off one ball at East Drive as the result of an all run four which included a shy at the stumps on the 4th run going for 4 over throws. In his career Anderson may go on to score more “fours” and “sixes” but it is unlikely he will score another eight. With it looking likely a very rare 10 wicket win was on the cards SMRH eventually had a breakthrough with only 8 runs required to win. Warrander nicked behind to the keeper for 21 resulting in a mini-collapse with 3 more wickets falling including that of Man of the Match Anderson for a well crafted 42. Galloway finally put the ball away for the winning runs and a well-deserved Largo win by 6 wickets..

With the Largo side now on a roll and hopes of avoiding relegation from Division 2 rising they will try to continue this run of form against Royal High Corstorphine in Edinburgh next week.
