Looking to get their first win of the season Largo 1st.XI travelled through to SMRH in Edinburgh.

Looking to get their first win of the league season Largo's 1st XI travelled through to SMRH in Edinburgh, with unfortunately not a full team due to availability issues. The Largo 8/9 lead by usual captain Rintoul started in the field after winning the toss.

Starting with A Brown and Scott it was the later who got an early break through removing Coultherd for 7. Opener Burt joined by Campbell pushed the score along before the introduction of Anderson resulted in the 2nd wicket of Campbell for 13. This brought opposition captain and main danger-man Burgess to the crease and with it a match changing partnership with Burt. With runs coming steadily the Largo team couldn't break the partnership and SMRH were beginning to pull away before Burt was removed finally by Anderson for 57. The dangerous Burgess however remained.

This wicket though brought the introduction of Bob Mowat after his man of the match performance with the bat last week however this time with the ball he took 4 wickets using all his experience including the wicket of Burgess for a powerful 77, a great effort on a day tough for scoring. SMRH finished on 182 all out but credit must be given to the Largo side who though short in the field gave their all to keep them to a score that could be chased down.

After tea the Largo side started towards chasing their target and couldn’t have had a worse start as they were quickly 2-2 with Rintoul and A.Brown out both without scoring. Thankfully for Largo though this brought usual 2nd team captain Baddeley to the wicket and with Mowat again showing great early season form they steadied the Largo innings. Once seeing off captain Burgess who recorded amazing figures of 2-6 with 7 maidens in his spell Baddeley and Mowat both reached 50 and gave Largo a sniff of an unlikely win. However for Largo it was not to be, with Baddeley and Mowat gone for 53 and 52 respectively the lower order couldn't get the team over line falling eventually 27 runs short. This was a great effort however in difficult circumstances with Bob Mowat again the star with bat and now ball. With the promise of usual regulars returning next week though, hopefully the Largo side's first win is just round the corner.
