On a sunny day at the end of a glorious week, Largo's 1st XI welcomed local cricketing neighbours Falkland 2s to East Drive. With the Largo team looking to bounce back from a loss last week a tough local derby was expected with the opposition 2 wins from 2 this season.
Captain Rintoul lost the toss and was invited to get his pads on and bat first. Opening with Warrander he was however the first wicket down missing a straight drive - bowled for 6. This brought A Brown to the wicket and despite some tight bowling the pair were patient waiting for the bad ball moving the score to 36 before an unfortunate top edge meant Warrander was gone for 19 caught well at fine leg by Hamilton.
From this point on the home side found it tough to score with A Brown the stand out with 25 however going in to the latter overs a big push was needed, and thankfully through Dom Coates this push came. Fresh off the train back from Aberdeen, Dom was finding the middle of the bat with ease and along with I Brown pushed the score along with some handy boundaries up to 134-9 off Largo's 40 overs, with Dom finishing on 39.
After a well enjoyed tea the Largo side were keen to get out and try and get an early breakthrough to put pressure on Falkland despite the low total. Gillin and A Brown opened the bowling with no success with opener Morris especially punishing anything short or wide to the boundary. Hoping for a breakthrough Rintoul turned to Bentley and Anderson but the same mix of luck and good placement from the Falkland batsmen meant that they were well on top before Rintoul himself struck with the score on 84, bowling Meikle for 22.
The game from then on was all about Morris trying to score his century which, despite some good bowling from Scott, he managed with the winning runs meaning a 9 wicket loss for Largo in a rather disappointing effort from those involved that they will hope to eradicate with a win at SMRH away next week.
