On a glorious sunny Saturday Largo's First XI were away looking for their first away win

On a glorious sunny Saturday Largo's First XI were away looking for their first away win this season against the so far unbeaten Livingston. Livingston skipper Bowering won the toss and batted much to the surprise of Largo skipper Nicky Rintoul who was going to bowl anyway on a pitch that looked slow and low. The instincts of skipper Rintoul immediately looked correct when after a few balls had already misbehaved Khan removed opener F Ahmed bowled for 3. This brought Livingston's oversees amateur to the crease Erasmus who then immediately ran out his skipper for 7, much to his dismay.

Bentley was then introduced to the attack with the score on 21-2 which then started a collapse from the opposition with wickets falling at regular intervals. Khan got a deserved 2nd wicket before Bentley quickly removed the dangerous looking Erasmus for 10. Captain Rintoul then got his second run out of the game with Sohail the victim this time followed by Bentley removing H Ahmed stumped after some smart wicket keeping from Warrander to leave the score 34-6 and Largo well on top. This continued after a brief period of consolidation by the home side when spinner Anderson struck twice in 2 overs to leave the Home side on 53-8 at the mid innings break .This break did however allow the home side to get together and post a much needed partnership of 29 before the returning Bentley finished the innings, finishing with 4-19 and the Livingston score on 89 all out. This was a great effort from the travelling Largo team and left them a total that should be more than manageable despite the poor pitch.

Largo opened with Warrander and Coates facing a very “vocal” opposition who were immediately rewarded with the wicket of Coates for 5. fKinnear, taking a run he would not usually take, soon followed and was run out for 5. Warrander falling LBW for 1 to left Largo in trouble at 16-3. The game though changed again in Largo's favour with Getti coming to the crease. Quickly he began to attack the bowling hitting 2 big sixes before the loss of skipper Rintoul and the score on 29-4. This brought Anderson to the crease and started a good partnership with Getti, the latter much the aggressor. As the target crept closer the more frustrated and then finally quieter the opposition became with Getti finding the boundary with regularity before finally he was caught in the deep for a well played 44. However his partnership of 40 with Anderson had got Largo within touching distance of the target.

Largo did lose one more wicket with Khan aiming to clear the ropes with 10 to win coming up just short caught on the boundary but Anderson and Gillin knocked off the runs for a deserved win by 4 wickets. This was very pleasing first away win of the season which will give great confidence to the side before returning home to play SMRH 2 at Largo next Saturday.
