Westquarter and Redding were Saturday's visitors to East Drive, Upper Largo.

Westquarter and Redding were Saturday's visitors to East Drive, Upper Largo where Largo's 1st.XI cricketers got this seasons home league fixtures underway.
Winning the toss Largo captain Nicky Rintoul opted to field in the overcast, bitterly cold conditions. The Largo skippers decision was more than justified as his bowlers had Westquarter all out for an apparently modest 95 runs in 38 overs.
F.Khan and Brown opened the bowling for Largo with both bowling a fine line and length. Young Browns efforts were rewarded when he had S.Ahmed caught in the slips by C. Baddeley for 11 and the score on 19. U.Aslam and Hamilton added a further 20 before first change bowler S.Warrender took the first of his 4 wickets when he sent Hamiltons stumps cartwheeling with a quick, straight ball. Replacing his luckless brother Farooq, Mehmood Kahn bowled the potentially dangerous U.Aslam for 23 with the score on 50. While A. Aslam showed some resistance the Largo bowlers continued to bowl tightly with S. Warrender taking 4 in his 9 over spell, Scott and Brown picking up 2 apiece and M. Khan and H. Gillin one each the latters wicket to a good catch by Rintoul.
Chasing 96 to win at a rate of around 2 per over looked a fairly straight forward proposition for the Largo batsmen especially as opening batsmen A. Warrender and Gillin looked fairly comfortable in the face of the Westquarter attack. Gillin however missed a straight ball as he attempted a pullshot and was bowled for 9 with Largo on 30. Kinnear and C.Baddeley both came and went quickly to LBW decisions - 32 for 3. The undercurrent of panic which gripped the home support had no effect on Farooq Khan as he and A. Warrender took the score to 65 before being bowled for a fine 25. Rintoul and M.Khan both fell to the left-arm spin of Baqi who gave the visitors hope of an unlikely win. Largo 70 for 6. Aidan Brown however was to show his batting talent for a second week in succession as he, with the rock solid A. Warrender, saw Largo home in the 21st. over without further loss. Fittingly Brown(19 not out) scored the winning runs and A. Warrender top scored on 27 not out.
Who had the bragging rights in the Warrender household? Stevie for his 4 wickets or Andy for his batting?
Although the match was low scoring it had plenty of excitement and anxious moments especially for the home team who will need a more solid batting performance this weekend when they are away to Clackmannan.
