On Thursday evening with excellent half centuries from Dom Coates and Andy Warrender Largo pulled-off a fine win against last years champions Fife Squires, a development team drawn from a number of Fife clubs.
Batting first Largo got off to a measured start with Andy Warrender and Asman Ali opening. However they upped the tempo when opening bowlers Ward and Lucas finished their first spells. Ali was bowled by Thomas for 18 with the score on 44 after 8 overs. Dom Coates then came to the crease. Coates' batting was a revelation to those who haven't seen him bat recently with some splendid straight shots to the boundary. Combined with good running between the wickets Coates reached the retiral score of 50 well ahead of Warrender. Anderson ably supported Warrender and was joined by Gillin when Warrender reached his 50. Gilin and Anderson were 11no and 14no respectively as they took Largo to 172 for 1 from their 20 overs.
A good T20 performance with big hitting and well taken quick runs.
With Wilkinson opening the batting Largo expected a blistering reply from The Squires and this they got with Wilkinson whacking Scott and S.Warrender around in their initial overs. Racing along at 8 per over Squires looked like they had the run chase well in hand but with the retiral of Wilkinson on 50 and Baddeley taking a good catch from the bowling of Anderson to dismiss Gosse Largo began to establish some control. Ward was going well(32)when Scott took a good catch in the gloom from S.Warrender's bowling while an Anderson catch from skipper Ali dismissed Scott Fleming. The pace of Baddeley and Gillin removed Penman and Pryce with Baddeley shattering one of the stumps. Anderson had to bowl the last over with the returning Wilkinson facing and an achievable 22 required. No problem - stumped second ball - Anderson's 3rd. wicket and Largo home by 19 runs.
A really competitive match thoroughly enjoyed both teams and their supporters.
