A FITTING END TO THE LEAGUE SEASON?? MATCH ABANDONED.

On Saturday Largo's 1st.XI cricketers made the trip across the Forth to play Musselburgh at Lewisvale Park in the final league match of the season. Having driven through showers to get to the match prospects of a full days play looked unlikely and an inspection of an already soggy wicket suggested that any further downpours on it would be terminal and so it proved to be. Musselburgh won the toss and opted to bat with Dale and Gatner opening the batting for the home team. With Robertson still unavailable it was the young opening duo of Gillin and Brown who spearheaded the Largo attack on the unresponsive wicket and while they bowled tight opening spells they could not achieve a breakthrough. After 12 overs Anderson and Baddeley took up the attack bowling 5 maiden overs in succession before the the heavens opened and there was a rapid retiral to the pavilion with score on 37 for 0 after 17.5 overs. An early tea was taken as the rain poured down and the decision taken to abandon the match as even if overhead conditions improved,which they did, the wicket would be unplayable.
This has been a very difficult season for the 1st XI who were pushed back up to Division 1 due to the 2014 reconstruction of the leagues while a period of consolidation in Division 2 might have been more beneficial. Despite unavoidable availability problems resulting in frequent team changes the relatively young team were at least competitive against the other teams in the lower half of the division and but for bad luck with the weather could well still be playing in Division 1 next season.
