Rain stopped play virtually all over Scotland on Saturday if it even managed to get started at all.
Under louring skies in Edinburgh Largo’s 1st.XI managed to get their match against Watsonians 2 underway. Winning the toss and electing to field Largo skipper Bentley knew he was battling not only against the Watsonians batsmen but against the approaching rain. Largo opening quick bowlers Robertson and Gillin kept things tight on a stodgy wicket which was to prove more helpful to the later bowlers who took pace off the ball. Bentley took the first wicket with the first ball of his spell as he and Scott took an even tighter grip on the home-sides scoring rate. Bentley took 4 for 29 from 8 overs including one to a sharp stumping by ‘keeper Warrender; spinner Anderson 1 for 26 from 8 and Scott was unlucky not to pick up a wicket bowling his 8 overs for 21 although his sharp fielding “ran out” the dangerous Flannigan. Watsonians did well to score 148 for 6 from their 40 overs especially as about 25 of the overs had been bowled in rain which got increasingly heavy. Despite both teams willingness to try to play there was no way the match could continue after the tea interval as the rain became torrential and seagulls took to the mini lakes forming on the wicket. Match abandoned. This was very disappointing for Largo who had put together a very strong batting side who should have been able to chase down the 149 required although admittedly on a difficult wicket.
