Following last weekends pulsating clash with Dunfermline the cricket served up at Newlands in Edinburgh on Saturday was as dreich and miserable as the capital's weather at least from the Fifers perspective. Winning the toss Largo captain Kinnear asked Edinburgh Accies to bowl on what turned out to be a nightmare wicket for the Largo batsmen.
Asman Ali and Andy Warrender started well both showing great patience as they took the score to 45 from 14 overs seeing-off the Accies attack. The introduction of spiinner Hugill however broke the promising partnership as Warrender inexplicably danced down the wicket, fourth ball faced and was out "stumped".for 23. This triggered a collapse of epic proportion when 45 for 1 became 57 for 8: 7 wickets falling for only 12 runs. Anderson (0)and Gillin(3) who played so well the previous week both fell to White who finished with an incredible 5 wickets for 8 runs from 10 overs while opener Ali(17) like Warrender fell to Hugill.
Largo legend Bob Mowat(20) with Scott(4) and Bentley(13no) was in defiant mood as "the tail" took the score nearer to respectability Largo finishing on 94 with the highlight of the Largo innings being a Mowat "six" from the bowling of Hugill.
Defending 94 was always going to be difficult for Largo not helped by a "dead" wicket which offered no pace to the young quick bowlers Brown and Gillin. Hopes were raised when Bentley bowled Maclaren for 13 and Anderson bowled Cotam also for 13 but this was too little too late as Accies knocked off the 95 required in 24 overs, Carmichael 60no.
While there were 3 enforced changes to the previous weeks line-up - opening bowler Robertson, opening batsman Rintoul and middle-order batsman Getti all unavailable - Largo were disappointed with there performance.and especailly with the manner of the batting collapse. A much improved performance will be required against Edinburgh CC who are the visitors to Largo on Saturday.
