On Saturday Largo's 1st.XI cricketers entertained Fauldhouse Victoria at a gloriously sunny East Drive. Winning the toss Fauldhouse invited Largo to bat on a superb batting wicket surrounded by a lightening fast outfield.
Runs flowed freely as openers Rintoul and Warrender relished the conditions putting on 83 in 13 overs before Warrender(34) was caught and bowled by McIllduff who, in the same over, trapped incoming batsman Ali LBW for a "duck". Fears of an all too frequent top order collapse were allayed as Rintoul and Anderson added another 44 runs before Rintoul(54) edged to the 'keeper Mahon from the bowling of Law. When Anderson(16) departed Largo skipper Kinnear anchored the innings with a solid 32 while the lower order chipped in to take Largo to 222 for 8 at the close of their 50 overs. Despite putting on their highest score for some time the batsmen were disappointed that they didn't make more of the ideal conditions and what they saw as a 300 wicket.
In reply Fauldhouse got off to the worst possible start with Connell caught by Dodds from the bowling of Bentley in the first over. Runs were hard to come by as Bentley and H. Gillin kept things tight for the Fauldhouse batsmen who clearly were hoping for some respite when a bowling change was made. Rintoul's introduction however almost immediately brought another wicket with Tonkin "yorked" for a stubborn 14 although Mahon and R.McDonald played some fine shots as they tried to push the score along. By drinks(25 overs) Fauldhouse were only 68 for 3 with Anderson having bowled McDonald round his legs for 30. Fauldhouse by now were intent on survival rather than a win but by swapping his bowlers around well Kinnear never let Fauldhouse off the hook. Gillin took 2 wickets in his second spell, Anderson showed his class in taking his haul to 3 and Scott tormented the batsmen with out-swing and off-cutters and also picked-up 3 wickets. Fauldhouse 101 all out and a Largo win by 121 runs.
While Fauldhouse might not be the cricketing force they once were this was a good win for a Largo team which had several key players missing.
