Largo welcomed local neighbours Falkland 2s to East Drive on Saturday looking to extend their recent win streak to 4 and move further away from the bottom 3 in SPCU Division 1. Largo captain Hughes Gillin won the toss and elected to bat first.
Largo opened with Warrender and Cusick, the pair making another solid start to the innings with Warrender the aggressor as they moved firstly passed 50 and then towards a hundred partnership before Warrender fell just before the 20th over LBW for 47. Dom Coates joined Cusick and the scoring continued at the near run a ball pace before a double strike from Mackenzie removed Coates (32) and Gillin for a duck, before he also dismissed Cusick (49) just short of his 50 caught on the boundary by Forbes.
With Largo now 176/4 going in to the final 12 overs it was up to Das and Kriskinans to try and push on to a big score and keep the momentum going. This was a task they were up for as the pair found the boundaries consistently as they put on a partnership of 66 in just 7 overs to take Largo past 250 before both Kriskinans (36) and Das (34) were dismissed in quick succession. The best however was yet to come in the Largo innings as Udayan finished the innings alongside Rowley (14*) by hitting 4 sixes in 6 balls on the way to a very quick fire 35 as Largo finished on 310/8 in their 45 overs, their highest score of the season so far.
The usual pair of Rowley and Cusick opened the bowling for the home side and Rowley continued his knack of first over wickets this season as he trapped May LBW first ball. The pair would go on to take a further wicket each early on in the innings, Cusick dismissing Forbes (4) caught well by Das before another LBW for Rowley saw Trewartha out for 11, Falkland 17/3. The pair would bowl through their allotted overs without further success but still economically before Gillin would come in to the attack himself to remove C.Hepburn for 30, Cusick with the catch as Falkland now required near 10 an over to win at the midway point of their innings.
R.Hepburn and Jennings would after drinks get the scoreboard moving for the visitors with a flurry of 40 off 6 overs before Udayan again would show his all-round talents, this time with the ball as he stopped the momentum in its tracks. He would go on to take 4 wickets in his spell of 4/28 to reduce the Falkland side to 138/8 and remove all chances of victory for the Falkland side. MacKenzie and Keddie would finish the innings strong for the visitors though with an unbroken partnership of 69, Mackenzie top scoring with 48* as Gillin rotated his bowlers before finally the innings finished on 207/8, and a 103-run win for Largo.
This impressive win from the Largo side will please them greatly as they continue their recent good run of form after a difficult start to the season, especially pleasing will be the good contributions throughout the side taking them to this victory. They do however face a tricky task next week as they head up to Aberdeen to face 2nd place Masterblasters.
