Saturday saw Largo welcome Rossie priory to East Drive. With captain Gillin unavailable it fell to Das to lead the team, with his first action of the day being to lose the toss and Largo were asked to bat first.

Das himself would open the batting with Cusick and the pair would find runs hard to come by with both Rossie openers keeping runs to a minimum. Das would be the first wicket to fall, run out for 4 with the score on 20. The returning Nick Baddeley was next in and would also find scoring tough but alongside Cusick would move the score on to 56 before falling the ball before drinks for 9. This would start the fall of regular wickets for Largo as Kriskinans, Coates and Udayan would lose their wicket with Cusick at the other end needing some support to get the home side to a decent total. This was not to be though as Cusick fell for a hard earned 43 with only Barclay also making it to double figures, Largo setting Rossie just 107 to win.

Rossie would show from the outset their intent to get the game won quickly. Scoring regularly from both openers Rowley and Cusick, Rossie would reach 50 without loss in just 10 overs and the game was running away from largo. Cusick would soon after claim the first wicket with Boother taking a good catch. Rory Konig on his first team debut was brought into the attach and showed his potential, bowling with good pace and troubling both batters and deservedly picked up his wicket clean bowling Awais who scored a century in the previous game between the teams. Only one more wicket would fall with Barclay claiming it as Rossie reached their target in unusual style with 5 penalty runs after the ball hit the helmet positioned behind the keeper.

A disappointing result for Largo given recent performances as they may look back on being to tentative when they were batting but with 4 games still to go they must put this result behind them, with the visit of Arbroath 2s next week being key in the outcome of the lower half of the league.

2nd XI

Largo 2s finished their season on Saturday versus Doune and Dunblane looking to finish with a win despite a depleted side. Brent Bentley captained the side and after losing the toss (an unfortunate trend this season) his side were asked to bat first.
Wilkinson and K.Singh opened the batting but couldn’t repeat their hundred partnership of last week, Singh bowled for just 4. The home side then remained on top throughout the first half of the innings with Wilkinson (27) and Brown (11) making double figures but at drinks Largo were 51/6.
Bentley though joined Tocher and the pair showed the resilience that Largo needed as they moved the score past 100 and towards a defendable score. The partnership would end on 88 as Bentley was caught for 36 before debutant Abdul Abid managed a couple of quick boundaries to move the score past 150. Tocher would be the last man out for 36 in his best knock of the year, but the story of the innings was clearly young Daniel Hart as the 13-year-old managed club record figures of 7/21 for the home side.
In reply Largo opened with Archibald and Singh but the pair couldn’t find the wickets required despite bowling well as Gallagher and B.Hart punished any loose deliveries. Hewad Abid came on in his debut to bowl well but was given a tough task as Gallagher and Hart showed real skill to push the score towards 100 at drinks and what seemed certain victory for the home side.
Bentley switched the bowling around after drinks trying to find a wicket but it was left to debutant A.Abid to make the breakthrough as he got Hart trapped LBW for a very well-played 72, the partnership ended on 152. This though would be Largo’s only wicket as the hosts through Gallagher’s 78* saw them home to a deserved 9 wicket victory.
The 2nd XI will be disappointed to end on a low note in this match however in terms of league position this was the most successful for the 2nd XI in 16 years and so they will be delighted overall with the progression shown this year, and will hope to build on this in 2027.
