Largo lose despite 50 from Fleming

2nds Match Report vs Holy Cross 2nds

Largo 2nds travelled to Edinburgh this weekend to face Holy Cross looking for their first win of the season after last weeks narrow loss. Captain for the day Mowat won the toss and decided to field.

Opening with Ben Michie and Dan Wood, Largo went looking for an early breakthrough however the pattern for the innings was set with Largo early on with Largo unable to get any wickets or slow down the scoring rate to a manageable level. Captain Mowat ran the changes to the bowling but with little success in terms of wicket taking until Jim Gillin managed to bowl Worsnop for a well played 66. However this would be the Largo sides only success of the innings with Mehta carrying his bat for 113* and Holy Cross finishing on 237-1 off their 40 overs.

In reply Largo were clearly up against it but managed to find some initial success after the early loss of Duncan with Mowat and Scott Fleming striking up a partnership that gave some hope of a good score. Mowat would go on to score 19 before he was bowled but Jamie Gillin would join Fleming and Gillin was looking in good form on his return to the side after a few years away.

Largo would eventually finish up on 157/9 off their 40 overs with Fleming making it to his half century on 52 before being bowled by Lohan and Gillin scoring 39*. This was a difficult day for the Largo bowlers but some encouraging displays for the batters got Largo some valuable bonus points, with the 2nds looking to get their first win next week against Livingston 2s.
