After an important win the day before, Largo 1st XI travelled to face newly crowned Division 1 league champions Forfarshire 2s on Sunday hoping to put in a good performance to secure their league status for next year with a win or at least gain more vital bonus points to help towards that cause with 1 week to go in the season next weekend. Captain Hughes Gillin won the toss and bowled first.

If Largo had hoped there would be a hangover from the celebrations from the home side the day before, then unfortunately they would find out very quickly this was not to be the case. Garden and Stonebridge the Forfarshire opening pair showed the class they have which has led them to the title with Stonebridge especially beginning in devastating form as he went on to score a hundred off just 47 balls in an innings the Largo bowlers just had no answer to. Garden would then also pick up the pace so that by the time mid innings drinks had been reached he made his hundred off 66 balls and the home side were already on a massive 258/0.

The pair would make it to a record 345 in their opening stand before Coates trapped Stonebridge LBW just short of a double ton on 197, before Garden was run out 2 balls later for 123. The Largo side though would not just give up despite the blast they had endured and with Coates taking a further wicket thanks to a catch from 1st XI debutant Murdo Duncan followed by 2 wickets for Kriskinans, and 1 each for S.Warrender and Das they got 4 bowling bonus points, but Forfarshire finished on a Largo highest ever score against of 445/7 off their 45 overs.

In reply A.Warrender and B.Coates opened the batting and the pair got off to a good start getting to 38 before Warrender was dismissed for 20. Udayan, looking to repeat his batting exploits from the day before joined Coates but both would be dismissed after a partnership of 25, Coates LBW for a well-played top scoring 35 with Udayan making just 10.

Kriskinans and Gillin would help the Largo side pass 100 and with both going well the prospect of maximum batting points was growing but once again both set batsman would be dismissed in quick order with Gillin LBW for 33, Kriskinans dismissed for 28 via the same method. From here Largo would continue to lose wickets at regular intervals but would push the score to 177 before Duncan became the last man out, Largo unfortunately falling to their record ever loss of 268 runs.

All is not lost on the day however as the Largo side made it to 9 important bonus points and on a tough day made a significant step towards league survival with these efforts. It will all come down to next week with Largo knowing they could finish as high as 8th if they win next weekend as they travel to Perth to face 8th placed Perth Doocot 2s in the final league fixtures of the 2026 season.
