Match Report 3rds vs Freuchie

On another scorching Sunday Largo travelled to Freuchie for a Strathmore Union League match and were in the field first on what looked like a good pitch and a lightning fast outfield.

Opening with Bentley and Michie the opposition batsman started well especially Hastie scoring boundaries against any bad ball served up by the Largo bowlers with Bentley taking the only early wicket of Brown for a duck. Runs continued to flow in the first half of the innings until the introduction of Sneddon to the attack who took 4 quick wickets including latterly the wicket of Hastie for 87 with a great catch by Forno in the deep meaning that with 15 overs to go Freuchie had moved to 160-7. However this brought the pairing of Wright and Cowan to the wicket who with some good hitting near the end managed to move the score along to 249 off their 40 overs.

In reply captain Coates opened with himself and Filsell and against a young but talented attack managed to get the score moving well with both finding the gaps and using the fast outfield to their advantage. The score moved to 39 before an unfortunate run out meant Coates was dismissed for 22 , bringing Crosby to the crease. Crosby thanks to some big hitting made a good 29 before being dismissed but he and Filsell had moved the score to 99 off the first 20 overs.

Young Ben Michie came in at number 4 and showed the talent with the bat often seen in the juniors supporting Filsell and running well with Filsell in the 25th over reaching a well deserved 50, deciding to retire not out at this point. Michie would continue to play well though and score his adult PB score of 29 before being run out well by Birrell. With overs running out the Largo batsmen went in search of quick runs and after Forno went out to bat without pads (Oops), thanks to McGilvery and Brown Largo finished short of their target on 211.

This was an enjoyable game for all with great performances throughout from the youngsters in both sides giving great delight for those involved.
