Largo have started their 2026 season with 2 friendlies over the past 2 weekends.
Last Saturday we played Dunfermline Wanderers who were skippered on the day by current Largo player Sandhu. Largo won the toss and bowled first and started brightly with Rowley taking 2 early wickets followed by Udayan picking up his first of the season, the visitors now 28/3. Sandhu and Sufyan then put on a 50 partnership before 3 wickets for Gillin alongside 2 for MacLeod and Das finished the Wanderers innings at 151.
In reply Largo started well with Das and Rowley opening before 4 wickets from Sufyan ripped through the Largo middle order. Debutant Luke Kirskinans though showed he will be a very useful addition to the club this year with a battling 29 before Largo managed to snatch an unlikely victory through the big hitting of Prakash Udayan who hit an unbeaten 48 to get Largo their first win of the season by the barest of margins with a 1 wicket win.
This Saturday we again welcomed St.Andrews University Students to East Drive. Largo batting first put on a dominant performance with the bat with Rowley and Gillin both retiring not out on 50 with 37 from Cusick and 23 from Das showing the top order look in good form going in to the 1st XI league season beginning next Saturday. From 200/2 Largo did collapse to 225 all out including a hat trick for McClorn for the students.
In reply Largo were immediately on top with Cusick taking 2 wickets in the first over. Rory Konig would also impress taking his first wicket of the season soon after before Matt Graham would take 3 wickets to leave the students struggling. Captain Gillin and Barclay would also take wickets cheaply as the Largo side dismissed the opposition for just 55 and an impressive 170 run win.
Thanks to both sides for being part of our pre season preparations as the 2nd XI start their league season on the 19th against DHFPS 3rd XI and the 1st team beginning the weekend after with the short trip to Falkland to play their 2nd XI.
