1st XI
Largo 1st XI travelled to Division 1 leaders Rossie Priory knowing a win would keep them out of the relegation places in 2025. Ben Coates won the toss as captain on the day for the Largo side and asked the host to bat first.
Opening with Cusick and Rowley the pair couldn’t stop the host getting off to a fast start through Noor who made 38 before being caught by Cusick off the bowling of Rowley. Rowley would take a further wicket caught by Sneddon in the gully in his spell of 2/24, with Barclay bowling with great flight and control to get 3 wickets in the middle overs to leave the game in the balance on 105/5 with 15 overs to go. Kirby remained and would get his 50 in the final over, but the game would be turned through the batting of Zachariah who scored a quick fire 84 to take the home side to 226/5 in their 45 overs.
Das and Coates opened for Largo in reply, and after hitting a huge six to get off the mark Coates was caught soon after for 7, a wicket for Zahid. Zahid would go on to take 2 further wickets dismissing Udayan (0) and Cusick (1) but it was Noor who would dismissing league leading run scorer Das for just 12 to leave Largo in trouble on 24/4.
Brown attempted a counter attack hitting some fine shots on what was increasingly becoming a tough pitch to bat on before he was dismissed for 19. With the game now looking lost, Largo went in search of batting points but despite the efforts of Barclay (13) and Collinson (7) getting their side to 1 point this would be all as Largo were bowled out for 85.
This was a tough loss for the Largo side with the 2nd innings batting conditions making the home side’s score well out of reach and what would have been a vital victory. This now sets up a must win game next weekend vs Masterblasters or relegation will likely be the result for Largo in 2025.
2nd XI
Largo welcomed league leading Broomhall to East Drive looking to repeat their victory against the leaders earlier in the season. Gareth Miles captained the side and after winning the toss his side fielded first.
Rintoul and Stuart Macdonald opened the bowling and Rintoul managed the early breakthrough of Robertson, bowled for 7. Lucas and E.Breen however saw off the remaining opening spells and were scoring freely as they reached a century partnership with Lucas the aggressor passing 50 in the process. Innes Macdonald would take the wicket of Breen for 20 before Gudgin kept up the rapid pace of scoring as the league leaders showed their batting power that has led them to the league title.
Lucas would make it to a quick fire 100 as Gudgin also reached his own milestone of 50 before 3 runs later he would fall to Slade thanks to a catch by Fletcher Smith. Smith would take 2 wickets of his own as he again impressed with the ball to finish the innings. The story of the innings though was Lucas who fell just short of batting through the 40 overs for a mighty 170, one of the highest scores ever at East Drive as his side finished on 290/5 off their 40 overs.
In reply Largo started poorly with the wicket of Rintoul for 5 mixed in with ducks for Filsell, Slade and Macdonald. Largo would fight to a respectable total though thanks to 45 from Sandhu top scoring along with 21 not out from Ally Duncan. However, the Largo 120 all out would leave them 170 runs short of the visitors total in a tough day for the home side. They finish their season next week as they travel to Glenrothes to play their 2nd XI.
