Largo comeback with the ball comes up just short in low scoring encounter

Brent Bentley26 Apr - 16:01

Excellent all round performance from Murdo Duncan along with 3 wickets each for Miles and Singh not enough in the end for victory vs Kinloch 3s

Looking to build on last weeks opening win, Largo 2s welcomed Kinloch 3rd XI to East Drive. Gareth Miles captained the Largo side and after losing the toss his side were asked to bat first.

Opening with last week’s Player of the Match Wilkinson and Slade, Largo got off to the worst possible start as both openers were dismissed cheaply by Bowman to leave Largo 4/2. Miles and A.Duncan looked to stage a recovery but found scoring difficult on a tricky wicket for batting. Miles’ resistance would end as he was dismissed for 10 followed by wickets continuing to to fall at regular intervals to leave Largo at 56/6 as Bowman returned to pick up a 3rd wicket.

Largo though would get a foothold in the game thanks to lower order resistance from MacDonald and Murdo Duncan who thanks to their 21 and 17 runs respectively pushed Largo up to over 100 as father and daughter Ewan and Eilidh MacLeod finished the innings unbeaten with the home side 109/9 off their 40 overs.

MacDonald and Sandhu opened the bowling in reply for Largo and couldn’t find the success the Dundee side had found in the early going as openers Khurshid and Usman moved to an opening stand of 50 and seemingly cruising to victory.

However, enter Miles and Singh with the ball who immediately found their line and lengths to put pressure on the opposition and wickets soon followed. Both would take 3 wickets each in their 8 over spells and with Murdo Duncan adding 2 wickets to his batting exploits earlier in the game the Largo side were suddenly favourites for an unlikely victory with the Kinloch side 89-8. It was however not to be for the Largo side as Bowman and Asif showed their experience to get their team over the line for a 2 wicket victory.

Largo will be disappointed with the result but happy to see the resilience showed with both bat and ball throughout the game, showing the skills they hope will mean a more competitive showing this season than in previous years. They will hope to get back to winning ways next week as they take the short trip to Falkland to face their 3rd XI.
