Looking to bounce back from last weeks narrow loss, Largo 2s welcomed St Modans 2nd XI to East Drive on another roasting hot day around the country. Brent Bentley was back as captain for the home side and after losing the toss his side were asked to bat first.
Largo opened with Sayer and Slade and unfortunately both were dismissed cheaply for 0 and 4 respectively. Brown and Sandhu though changed the momentum back to the Largo side with Brown finding gaps in the field to keep the score moving and Sandhu in his hard-hitting style finding the boundaries in style.
The pair moved the score to 65 in just 12 overs, before Sandhu looking to play a rare defensive shot was bowled for 23. First week player of the match Hickson then came to the crease but couldn’t repeat her heroics as she was caught at short cover for just 10, followed soon after by G.Miles for 3, Largo in trouble at 86/5.
Bentley joined Brown and the pair move the score past 100 and looked in control before a double blow as Ikram produced 2 great spinning deliveries to remove both in the same over, Brown top scoring on 38. Largo would have a late rally thanks to a very promising batting display from Macdonald (22) and Coates (4*) but would finish on 142 in just 32 overs.
Feeling they were a little short of a par score on the quick scoring conditions Largo opened with Macdonald and Bentley and both bowled well though were unable to find the early breakthrough that they hoped for with Sutherland in particular quick to score on anything off line. Bentley turned to Sandhu and Miles to get the breakthrough and it would be the later who would get Largo in the game as he first removed Parikh for 20 before getting 2 more wickets of Marsh and Mould, St Modans now 81/3.
Looking to get further breakthroughs MacLeod was brough in to the attack and did manage to get 2 wickets for himself, Singh trapped LBW for 14 and Nith well caught on the boundary by Sandhu for 12. However the home side couldn’t remove Sutherland and he would end up being the match winner as he finished not out on 69 as the visitors won by 5 wickets.
Largo will be disappointed that they have lost back-to-back home games to start the year but they were more than competitive in both matches and hope to turn these performances in to wins in the future. They will hope this will begin with an away fixture in 2 weeks time in Dundee vs Kinloch 3s.
