Largo 2s Continue good start to 2026 with victory vs Glenrothes 2s

Brent Bentley10 May - 21:55

Murdo Duncan and Bentley stand out with bat and ball in good all round team performance to make it 3 wins from 4.

On Saturday Largo 2nd XI looked to continue their good start to the season as they welcomed Glenrothes 2s to a dry but cold East Drive. Captain Brent Bentley lost the toss and his side were asked to bat first.

Bentley opened himself with Slade and the pair put on 13 for the opening partnership before Slade was caught at square leg off the bowling of Taylor for 6 before Brown making his season debut was bowled by Ullah for just 10. Club President Ally Duncan joined Bentley and the pair fought hard against some disciplined Glenrothes bowling while contending with the slow pitch and outfield to make it to mid innings drinks at 63/2.

With the break however came a tough double blow as Duncan had to unfortunately retire hurt due to a torn calf muscle when on 12 before Bentley was caught at mid-off for 27 soon after. Largo though showed the resilience lacking in past seasons with the bat however as they fought on with Murdo Duncan producing another great performance with bat in hand this season to top score on 28 and Kamal Singh also impressing with his 21 as Largo made 150-8 off their 40 overs.

In reply for Largo, Singh and Stuart Macdonald opened the bowling and with his 3rd ball Singh managed to get a wicket caught and bowled, AR Tawheedi gone for a duck. This however brought in the dangerous Ullah and he immediately went on the attack pushing the score to 42/1 and putting the pressure back on the Largo attack. A change in bowling at both ends though would bring a double success with Sandhu removing AW Tawheedi for 9 before Fletcher Smith produced a high-quality spell of swing bowling that involved removing Ullah clean bowled for 27.

From this point on, Largo managed to put the squeeze on in the field and continue to take wickets at regular intervals. Innes Macdonald produced a beautiful swinging delivery 2nd ball to bowl Myles for 6, before Miles got a deserved wicket removing Ramdas for 18, S.Macdonald with the catch. Chacko and Le Roux would get to double figures and help get Glenrothes to three figures, but 2 wickets Murdo Duncan and 3 for captain Bentley finished the innings and give the Largo side a home victory by 48 runs.

This win makes it 3 wins from 4 matches so far this year for the 2nd XI who will be delighted with their start after a few tough season where wins have been hard to come by. They will look to keep this good run going as they for the first time ever welcome Doune & Dunlane CC to Largo next weekend.
