Excellent 3 wicket spell from Brown and 50 from Gillin not enough to get Largo back to winning ways.

Largo’s 1st XI welcomed Kinloch to a breezy East Drive on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways after back to back losses in recent weeks. Hughes Gillin captained Largo and after winning the toss he decided to bat first.

Largo opened with the usual openers of Cusick and Das but the pair were unable to continue their form over recent weeks as a partnership with Cusick dismissed for 7. Aidan Brown joined Das and pushed the score past 50 before Das was dismissed caught off the bowling of Lodin for 20. Gillin batting at No 4 came in and was immediately in aggressive mood and helped Largo to 73/2 and in a good position.

However all would change when a collapse of 5/23 saw the dismissal of Brown for 28 followed by 4 consecutive ducks for the Largo middle order with Lodin taking 3 further wickets as the main contributor for the visitors. Gillin though would find a partner in Udayan who helped Largo to pass 150 and with 15 overs to go Gillin would make it to a run a ball 50 and put his side in sight of a competitive score on much quicker scoring ground due to the faster outfield than in previous weeks. Gillin would though only make 7 more and Largo would be dismissed for 168 and with a huge 11 overs not used.

Brown and Merrington in reply would open for the Largo side and Brown would get the wicket his spell deserved with the score on 31 dismissing Niazi bowled for 3. Soon after Largo would then manage a double strike with Brown getting Shafi to hit to Gillin at mid off followed by Cusick getting Khan LBW to leave the visitors 40/3.

Ahmed though would join Hussain at the crease and immediately went about hitting the Largo bowlers all over East Drive and after surviving a few early chances he pushed the score quickly past 100. He would make it past 50 before being eventually dismissed for 59 off just 32 balls by Das, Ian Brown taking the catch at square leg off a mistimed sweep.

Aidan Brown returned and finished his impressive 9 overs by taking his 3rd wicket, bowling Mohammed for 8 and briefly giving Largo a chance of victory. Hussain and Khan though would alleviate the nerves with 13 runs off the penultimate over of the innings as Kinloch reached the target with 4 wickets remaining.

Largo will be disappointed to slip to a 3rd straight defeat with the loss of 11 overs of batting and missed opportunities on the boundary again in the field leaving the side with issues to ponder for future weeks. They will look to get back to winning ways next week as they make the short trip to Glenrothes.
