Off the back of last weeks tight loss to Gordonians, largo headed to Dundee looking to claim their first league win of the season against recently promoted DHSFP 2XI.
With usual skipper Hughes Gillan unavailable, Jayjit Das lead the team for the 1st time. Winning the toss and asking Dundee to bat first on a cold, overcast and damp day, Largo opened the bowling with the usual pairing of Steve Rowley and Paul Cusick. Bowling with great control both bowlers regularly tested the batsman and bowled their overs straight through with each gaining a deserved wicket while their opposition scored at just over 2 runs an over. Change bowlers Barclay and Merrington kept the pressure on the batsman with both bowlers bowling their full allocation of overs straight through, with the latter bowling his best spell of bowling for the team ending with figures of 3/31, Barclay also picking up a first league wicket of the season. This left Will Philip and Prakash Udayan to look to wrap up the inning which they did in great style, Philip ending up taking 3 wickets and Udayan one of his own without conceding a single run. Dundee set largo a target of 121 to win on what was by now a damp wicket and outfield. Captain Das getting his bowling changes right and the bowlers being backed up throughout in the field whilst only conceding just 5 boundaries in the innings.
Largo opened their reply with Das and Philip and despite getting off to a good start Largo were soon 2 down, Das run out for 7 with Philip following soon after bowled for 7. It was left to Rowley and Wilkinson, making his 1st team debut to settle the innings. Dundee looked to apply the pressure but the pair kept firm in defence and pushed the score onto 48 before Wilkinson going for a bigger shot was caught at mid wicket for 5. After his performance with the bat last week Luke Kriskinans was promoted up the order and again played some aggressive shots to get Largo to the half way point in the chase. With the rain steadily falling Largo had one eye on the permutations should the rain get heavier when Rowley fell for 19. With 60 runs still to get Cusick joined Kriskinans and the pair batted sensibly taking the singles where they could and kept the score ticking along to the target until Cusick played back to one which kept low to be bowled for 12. Coates strode to the crease and looked assured from ball one and he and Kriskinans saw largo home with just under 15 overs to spare. Coates looking in great form, top scoring with 22, Kriskinans finishing on a well deserved 21 not out.
Overall a great all round team display from largo in tough conditions which will set them up well for next weeks trip to another promoted team from last season in the form of Tay Lions.
