Fresh off last week’s victory Largo’s 1st XI travelled the short trip to league leaders Falkland 2s in the hope of getting on a winning run to end the season strong. Largo’s captain Hughes Gillin won the toss and elected to bat first.
Das and Warrender opened for Largo and the pair moved to 25 before Warrender was run out for 8. Baddeley joined Das at the crease and put on a well-paced partnership of 55 before the home side struck a double blow removing both set batsman, Das dismissed by Chamber for 35 followed soon after by Baddeley for 26. Gillin and Cusick went about rebuilding the innings and did so well moving the score to 143 and setting a good platform to attack from.
The partnership would though come to an end when Gillin was bowled by the impressive Ryan Hepburn who went for just 13 from his 9 overs. Rowley would come to the crease and show good attacking intent and remain not out at the end on 38 as Largo moved past 200 to finish 209/6 off their 45 overs.
In reply Largo opened with Cusick and Gillin and the former made yet another early breakthrough this season dismissing the dangerous Campbell caught behind for just 4. Hibberd would join Trewartha and the pair would move the score past 50 with Trewartha the aggressor as he moved to a half century. The game though would change momentum at this point as Largo took 3 wickets for just 3 runs with Udayan removing Trewartha and Hibberd (22) with Barclay also dismissing C.Hepburn for a duck.
The home side though would show the reason they are toping the table as they punished sloppy fielding from the Largo side with Gallagher playing the staring role in the reply with an unbeaten 75 including 4 big sixes in to the trees surrounding Scroggie Park. Gillin would remove Burton thanks to a catch by Warrender for 15 but a quick fire 27 from Ryan Hepburn would see the home side to victory along side Gallagher and a 5 wicket win for the league leaders with 2 overs to spare.
After a putting a good score on the board and taking 3 quick wickets in the reply to remove the home sides middle order the Largo side will see this as yet another missed opportunity this season, especially frustrating with the situation being so tight at the bottom of SPCU division 1. They will hope to get back on track next week as they welcome bottom side Stoneywood Dyce 2s to East Drive.
