68 run 8th wicket partnership helps visitors to 1 wicket win late on at East Drive.

On a glorious sunny day at East Drive, Largo looked to bounce back from their heavy defeat in Brechin last week by welcoming Perth Doo’cot 2s for what history will say is often a tight game between the two sides. Hughes Gillin captained Largo and after losing the toss his side was asked to bat first.

Largo opened with Cusick and Das who managed again this season to set a steady platform for the innings moving to 35/0 after 13 overs and seeing off the openers from Perth. The partnership moved past 50 before Das became the first wicket as he looked to move the score along falling to Ameen for 27. Andy Warrender joined Cusick for his first game of the season and made 11 before he was lbw to Razzak followed soon after by Cusick for 30 to the same bowler, Largo now 93/3.

With the overs running out it was set up for Largo’s big hitters to provide a big finish and thankfully for the home side Gillin and Coates set them on their way with both finding the boundaries with regularity to take the score towards 150. Coates would be dismissed for 24 but Rowley (28*) and Brown (27) continued the attack and along with Gillin who top scored with 42 managed to push the score past 200 to 216/7 off their 45 overs, which looked a good score in the conditions at the half way point.

Largo opened in reply with A.Brown and Cusick with Aidan making an early breakthrough dismissing Owais for 2 with Murray Sneddon taking the catch. The visitors would move towards the 50 mark before a double blow from the Largo side by Cusick dismissing firstly Baxter for 15 then Hill next over for a duck.

Gillin introduced himself and Das in to the attack and throughout the following 20 overs they managed to take regular wickets with Gillin taking 2 himself, Das the vital wicket of Murray for 36 and a run out by Udayan left the visitors on 148/7 going in to the final 10 overs. However despite this dominant position for the Largo side the game would take a final twist with Razzak and Ameen managing to find boundaries each over to keep up with the run rate. With no success for the Largo bowlers and with frustratingly a number of missed catches in the field building the pressure on the home side, the pair took the score to 200 with 3 overs left and now favourites.

The partnership would move to 66 leaving the Perth side needing just 2 runs to win in the final over. Doo’cot managed to get to scores tied before Largo managed two run outs and a tie looked possible as the pressure came on the visitors with their final batter at the crease and just 3 balls remaining. However Zadran next ball managed the run required to complete what looked an unlikely victory for Doo’cot with Ameen 41* the difference maker for the Perth side.

After last weeks heavy defeat this may be an even harder loss to take for the Largo side after being likely victors till late on in the game and missing chances created in the field that would have secured victory. They will hope to get back to winning ways next week again at home to Kinloch.
