Largo welcomed Tay Lions to East Drive on Saturday looking to build on last week’s home victory and begin to move up the league table. Hughes Gillin won the toss for Largo and decided to bat first.

Largo opened with Warrender and Das, however they were immediately in trouble as Warrender couldn’t continue his recent good form as he was dismissed for 2, followed soon after from the crease by Dom Coates who couldn’t back up his match winning knock for the 2s last week as he was bowled for a duck. Moments later Largo were in real trouble as Das and Cusick were also dismissed to leave Largo struggling on 30/4.

Captain Gillin was joined by Kriskinans and the pair went about rescuing the innings, which they did successfully as they moved to 87 before Gillin was trapped LBW for a near run a ball 34. Kriskinans though remained and with useful contributions from Brown, Ben Coates and Udayan he pushed the Largo score along past 150 and to his own maiden 50 for the club. Senevirathna (4/23) and Fernando (3/37) returned to put the pressure on Largo but with the pair running out of overs, Largo made it to 226 all out with Kriskinans making a well played 83*.

Largo, on a high after the unlikely recovery in their innings opened with Rowley and Cusick with the ball and found immediate success with Rowley dismissing Wadugee LBW first ball of the innings. Rowley though would not finish there as he went on to take 3 further wickets in his first 4 overs to leave the opposition also 30/4 in their reply. Cusick would then get a wicket of his own soon after before a recovery from the visitors saw them reach 70/5 as the openers finished their spells.

Largo though would get back to making breakthroughs with the ball after the mid innings break. Gillin dismissed Dilantha caught behind by Warrender, before Brown after dismissing top scorer Patabadinge for 34 thanks to a great diving catch by Rowley at mid wicket claimed 2 further wickets in the over to leave his side on the brink of victory.

Gillin would take the final wicket after a late flurry from Hussain as the visitors were bowled out for 124 and a 102 run victory for Largo.

This was a very well deserved, if unlikely victory early on in the match, after the performances from Kriskinans and lower order were then backed up by all in the home side with the ball. Largo will hope to keep the winning run going as they are at home again next week against Kinloch.
