Largo 2nd XI welcomed Dundee High FPs 3s to East Drive on Sunday for their penultimate game of the season looking to build on last weeks narrow victory. Murray Sneddon captained the Largo side on the day and after winning the toss he decided to bat first.
Largo again opened with Wilkinson and Kamal Singh which worked immediately for the Largo side as they negotiated a tight opening spell from Hopkins and Pathak before Singh especially accelerated the innings and made it to his maiden 50 for Largo. The pair were still together at drinks before then making it to an impressive opening stand of above 100 before Singh was dismissed for 59 by MacKintosh.
Tocher (1) would also become one of 5 wickets for Mackintosh as Largo continued to lose wickets at regular intervals including Wilkinson LBW for 43. Brown (16) and Ashwan Singh (20) would help push the score towards 200 before the score was achieved by Warrender with a 6, just before Sneddon became the last wicket to go with Largo all out for 204.
In reply Largo opened with Boother and Warrender, and it was the later who got the first wicket for the Largo side with a caught and bowled to dismiss Neilson for 4. Ex-Largo player Caddick helped push the score to 30 and see off the openers, however the introduction of Kamal Singh saw him take 4 wickets and combined for 5 wickets in total with Sandhu for just 4 runs to reduce the visitors to 36/6 and seemingly take the game away from the Dundee side.
It was not to be an easy win in the end for the Largo side though as Mackintosh joined captain Hopkins and set about steadying the innings and then putting the home side under real pressure as they put on an impressive partnership of 126. Mackintosh following his 5 wickets earlier, got his side to within sight of an unlikely victory before he would finally be dismissed by Boother bowled for an impressive 73. This would end the resistance of the visitors and after 2 late wickets for Warrender the Largo side claimed victory by 29 runs.
Largo will be glad to get over the line in the end in this match despite Mackintosh’s all-round heroics for the Dundee side, and will hope to finish on a high in their last league fixture next as they travel to face Doune & Dunblane.
