Das makes Maiden Largo Century in Record breaking day for 1st XI at East Drive.

Largo score their highest ever innings score in convincing win over Stoneywood Dyce 2s.

Largo 1st XI welcomed Stoneywood Dyce 2s to East Drive knowing that only a win would do against the league’s bottom side if they were to achieve survival in SPCU Division 1 this season. Captain Hughes Gillin lost the toss for the home side and his team were asked to bat first in what would turn out to be a record-breaking innings.

Largo opened the batting with Das and Warrender and the pair got Largo off to a fast start taking advantage of any opportunity given up from the visitors attack while rotating the strike well. The partnership would move past 100 in just the 15th over before Warrender was adjudged LBW to Fraser for 19, followed soon after by the same bowler dismissing Gillin caught and bowled for just 3.

Das though would remain and looked as good as ever this season in what has been one of the best with the bat for some time in Largo colours. He would move past 500 runs for the season in partnership with Coates who was looking back in form before he was bowled by Reid for 22. Cusick joined Das and started in aggressive fashion with 2 uncharacteristic 6s, but attention was on Das as he looked to finally get over the line and get his first hundred for the club after a few near misses.

The Largo score would pass 200 as Das moved closer to the milestone before he, much to the delight of everyone in attendance, did manged to get to his first Largo hundred at less than a run a ball in one of the best innings East Drive will have seen in its history. Once this milestone had been met 2 further records were being eyed up, the highest innings score for Largo and the highest individual score.

Das after passing 100 put his foot down again and made it to with in sight of a Largo record individual innings but would eventually fall for 136 off just 111 balls, with his 16 fours and 4 sixes a delight to watch. This would end up a record-breaking innings however as some late hitting from Rowley (20*) and 10 each from Ian and Aidan Brown saw Largo to 323/7, their highest ever league score.

In reply, Largo opened with usual openers Cusick and Rowley who bowled well without much success after an early run out by Warrender, before Cusick with the score on 50 got a deserved breakthrough with Mackenzie dismissed for 29, Udayan with the catch. The openers would bowl their 9 overs through each before captain Gillin decided to spread the bowling around for the rest of the innings.

This would lead to rare 1st XI wickets for Coates and Sneddon after replacing Aidan Brown who dismissed Dauth for 15. The visitors would finish with a strong unbroken partnership of 84 with Reid making a run a ball 60, the Dyce side finishing on 159/5 from their 45 overs and a 164 run win for Largo.

Largo will be delighted with the way they completed this win and, in the process, they have moved out of the relegation places in Division 1. They will need to continue this form however in to their final 3 games if they are to beat the drop in 2025 as they travel to Forfarshire next weekend to face their 2nd XI.
