Largo 2nd XI travelled to Broughty Ferry to face Forfarshire 3rd XI looking to stop a recent losing run after a great start to the season. Captain Brent Bentley won the toss and his side bowled first.
Largo opened with Boother and Macdonald and were immediately in the wickets as Boother bowled Ross for a duck before Brown took a good catch at point to dismiss Giannico. Ammar, fresh of a quick fire hundred last week, was beginning to find his feet again at the crease as he moved his side towards 50 before he was dismissed thanks to a brilliant catch by Murdo Duncan for 20 off the bowling of Boother.
This wicket sparked a collapse as Merrington got 2 wickets in his 2nd over before Boother took a 3rd to leave the home side now 58/6. Sassoon and Iqbal looked to be steading the innings for the home side before another flurry of wickets with Merrington taking another thanks to a catch by Ally Duncan behind the stumps and 2 quickly after for Sandhu meant the home side were 83/9. The innings though wouldn’t finish there as Sasson played a fine knock of 48 in partnership with Latto (11*) to frustrate the Largo side and push the score on to 127 before Sasson became the final wicket of the innings and 4th wicket for Merrington.
In reply Largo opened with Das and Collinson and from the start the visitors found batting equally a struggle as the Forfarshire side. Das (4) and Collinson (7) were both dismissed by Latto as Largo creeped along at below 2 an over against the accurate bowling. Brown and Tocher would see off the opening bowlers but a change to Bruce brought immediate success with Brown LBW for 12, followed next ball by Sandhu for a golden duck.
A.Duncan would join Tocher and help push the score along, yet slowly so that going in to the final 10 overs Largo needed 55 still to win which looked a tough ask given the game so far. However, Boother would begin to find extra fluency with the bat and with a few good overs adding pressure to the home side, Tom brought Largo back in to the game. A.Duncan would be run out for 7, but Murdo would replace his dad and hit 2 quick 4s himself to leave Largo suddenly as favourites before he was dismissed by Sasson for 9. Boother though wasn’t to be denied as he continued to find the boundary and would finish the game with a fine 4 through the covers to take himself to a new Largo high score of 48 not out and a Largo victory by 3 wickets.
In a close match against a young, talented side Largo will be very happy to have got the win today, especially after a tough start with the bat with Boother’s all round efforts the obvious stand out on the day. They will look to keep this momentum going next week once again at home vs St.Modans 2s.
