Largo’s 2nd XI looked for back to back wins to start the season as they welcomed Broomhall to East Drive. Gareth Miles again captained the 2nd XI and after losing the toss his side were asked to bat first.
Slade and Harry Collinson opened the batting for Largo but both fell early with Panchal and Kahlon getting a wicket each followed by Kahlon getting a 2nd, this time of the dangerous Sandhu for just 8. Miles would join Brown and the pair would get the innings back on track with a 50 partnership before Miles was adjudged LBW for 21, Largo 68/4.
Graham would follow Miles back to the pavilion soon after for a duck before Brown picked up the pace in the innings to take the Largo score near 100 along with Alex Collinson, until unfortunately Alex’s debut came to a painful end as he suffered an Achilles injury to add to the clubs early season injury woes. Brown would make it to a deserved 50 as Largo batted out the 40 overs to push to 118/8 off their 40 overs.
In reply the innings took a familiar turn as both Largo openers also took an early wicket each, Macdonald and Graham removing Robertson and Kahlon to leave the visitors 12/2. Neither however would be able to add to their wicket tally as Hynd and Breen moved the visitors passed 50. Miles though would bring himself in to the attack and along with Sandhu set up an exciting finish as they continued to take wickets as the visitors pushed towards the target.
Miles would remove opposition captain Lucas for 4 before Sandhu would take 4 wickets in his spell to leave Broomhall still 21 runs short of victory with just 3 wickets remaining. Despite the wickets at the other end however, opener Hynd remained for the visitors and along with Brown he moved past 50 as Miles and Sandhu finished their allotted overs.
Largo turned to Graham and Collinson to try and get the final wickets but neither could make the breakthrough as Hynd would prove himself the match winner with his 55 not out as the visitors won by 3 wickets.
Largo will be disappointed to lose the match after getting themselves in to a great position to take victory in the 2nd innings, but will be heartened that they have once again shown themselves to be competitive this season in the league after last season’s difficult start. They will hope to get back to winning way next week with another home match, this time against St Modans 2s.
