2nds fall to home defeat as lack of runs again cost Largo the chance of victory

Konig with 20 top score with Sandhu and Ahmad the pick of the bowlers in a loss in final home game of the season.

Largo 2s welcomed St.Modans 2s to East Drive on Saturday for their final home game of 2024 looking for a third win of the season against a side like Largo near the bottom of the table in Division 2 and without a full team due to availability issues. Gareth Miles again captained the home side and after winning the toss his side bowled first.

Konig and Ahmad opened the bowling for Largo and soon both were in the wickets after good opening spells with Mould and Jham removed for 9 and 2 respectively. Nith joined Tomar who manged to take the score past 50 with Nith’s innings beginning with 3 6s off Smith before he managed to get his revenge by getting him caught, with Slade taking the catch. Smith was then able to take a further quick wicket as did Ahmad at the end of his 8 over spell of 2/28 to leave the visitors 59/5.

The visitors though rallied with Tomar and Ravikumar taking the score past 100 in a partnership of 48 before Sandhu was able to take 3 late wickets to return figures of 3/22 and help bowl out the opposition for 119.

In reply Largo opened with Filsell and captain Miles looking to get off to a solid start however the Largo side were immediately in trouble with Miles gone for 1, Slade for 6 and Largo’s key batter this season Sandhu for a duck, Largo 12/3. Konig joined Filsell and showed the promise he has with bat as well as ball as he moved to a new adult cricket best of 20 before both were dismissed followed soon after by F.Miles and Ahmad to leave Largo 46/7.

Ewan MacLeod would get to double figures (11) along with Smith who showed his increased confidence with the bat to make 7 but overall it was never going to be enough as the home side fell to a disappointing 52 run loss.

It was the same story for the 2nd XI this year of not being able to put up a competitive score with the bat to follow up a decent effort in the field. Largo play their penultimate game of the season this weekend as they travel to play Broomhall.
