Michie stars with ball as 2s lose final home game

On the last weekend of the league season after a run of wet weather that cost most of the 2nd half for both league sides, the 2nds finished off the season against Old Contemptibles at East Drive hoping for another entertaining game after the two sides played out a rare tie earlier in the season.

Captain Sneddon won the toss and chose to field which seemed like a good decision straight away as the visitors were reduced to 6/4 from 9 overs with Ben Michie the main reason, taking 3 wickets thanks to some fine accurate bowling showing the potential that Largo hope they will see for years to come. After Michie's spell along with a wicket from Bentley well caught by Ben Coates behind the stumps, OCCC recovered well with Robertson and Hinstridge putting on a 100 partnership despite some good bowling from the home side.

The partnership though would be broken by Barclay who bowling some experimental leg spin which in a surprise as much to himself as anyone else proved to be very effective and managed to get Robertson out stumped for 45. Hinstridge would fall in the following over in similar fashion stumped coming down the track giving Coates a wicket after swapping out from his keeping duties for a top scoring 48. The quick wickets would bring together Campbell and Lomax who, thanks to some big hitting to the short boundary get OCCC up to 185 off their 40 overs.

In reply Largo also started poorly with the bat with only Aidan Brown (20) reaching double figures in the top 5 and leaving Largo 36/5. The 5th wicket brought Andrew Eglinton and Ian Brown together and they got the innings back on track for the home side with Eglinton especially showing his abilities as a big hitter with 2 of the biggest 6s seen this season. After the 2nd of the 6s however a change in angle from Robertson saw Eglinton bowled for 31 and with the score on 72/6 Largo's hopes of ending the season on a high seemed slim.

Brown (21), Sneddon (17) and Barclay (17) provided some resistance from the home side but eventually Largo would finish on 135 all out. This was an enjoyable end to the season however for the 2s who will drop down to Division 6 for next year with hopes that a drop in level will lead to a better run of results.

Summary: OCCC 185/7 (Hinstridge 48, Robertson 45, Michie 3/20) beat Largo 2nd XI 135 All Out (A Eglinton 31, Hinstridge 3/18) by 50 runs.

Team: Dakin, B Coates, A Brown, J Eglinton, B Michie, A Eglinton, I Brown, Sneddon (c), Barclay, J Gillin, B Bentley
