Good start for Captain Sneddon

On another bright and sunny day at East Drive Largo's 2nd XI got their season under way against Musselburgh 2s. New Captain Murray Sneddon lost the toss and the home side were put in to bat.

Largo opened with John Robertson and Chris Baddeley looking for a solid start however the former was removed early for 1 miss-judging a leg side delivery and losing his leg stump. This however brought last years player of the year Simon King to the crease and between him and Baddeley they managed to increase the scoring rate well after seeing off the openers on what was a very slow outfield where no value for shots along the ground would be given at all.

Eventually in the 26th over Baddeley went for one big shot too many and was bowled for a well played 27. This brought Ryan Wilson to the wicket and along with King managed to move the score to 120 before not long after reaching a well deserved 50 King was given out LBW. However with 6 overs to go the platform to increase the score was there and thanks to mainly some very good running the Largo side finished up with 152/5 off their 40 overs, Wilson scoring 35, which seemed a very competitive score given the conditions.

In reply Largo opened with Bentley and Nick Baddeley and immediately they had the opposition in trouble with Bentley taking the wicket of Boyd for 1 before N.Baddeley then taking 3 more wickets including a contender for catch of the season from Chris Baddeley to leave the opposition in trouble at 33/4 after 10. The good news for the home side was that this would continue to be the case with the change bowlers of C.Baddeley and Mowat taking 3 wickets between them to leave Musselburgh on 57/7 at the half way mark.

Youngsters Ben Michie and Louis Baddeley then came in to the attack with both bowling well if not with a lot of luck until L.Baddeley managed to get 2 wickets quickly to leave the opposition playing only for bonus points with N.Baddeley returning to finish the innings with his 4th wicket, dismissing the visitors for 108.

This was a great win for the Largo side with captain Sneddon getting the start he wanted and managed to cope well with the new playing regulations in Division 5 this year in his first league captaincy effort. Next up is a trip to Edinburgh to play Morton.
