2nd XI fall short of 200 target in Glenrothes Loss
3 wickets from Gareth Miles and 43* from Ben Michie not enough to see their side to victory.
Largo 2nd XI travelled the short distance to Glenrothes on Saturday to play their 2nd XI in a mid-table clash in SPCU Division 3. Gareth Miles captained Largo on the day and after losing the toss his side were asked to bowl first.
Largo opened with the returning Ben Michie and Emily Archibald and the pair found immediate success with both taking an early wicket to leave the home side 6/2. Tawheedi and Balan steadied the innings taking the score past 50 before another double strike from Largo saw Boother and Kamal Singh take a wicket each thanks to catches by Sukhi Singh and Michie, the home side now 59/4.
Balan though remained and along with Varghese the home side rallied to pass 100 before soon after reaching his 50, Sandhu removed Balan for 53. Varghese however continued on past 50 himself, eventually finishing on a top score of 77 as his side progressed on towards 200 despite Largo continuing to take wickets at the other end thanks to captain Miles with 3 and another for Sandhu. Archibald would return to remove Varghese thanks to a catch from Tocher as Glenrothes finished on 199 all out, Largo needing to pass 200 once again to win.
Largo opened with Wilkinson and S.Singh in reply but found themselves in trouble early as Singh (6), Brown (4) and Tocher (3) all went cheaply. Sandhu managed to hit a quick 12 before another collapse, including Wilkinson for 22 meant Largo were in trouble at 80/7.
The visitors though would rally with Murdo Duncan and Michie seeing their side past 100 with both looking in good form. Duncan would make it to 20 before he was bowled by Chacko but Archibald (14) equally stuck in well with Michie as they pushed the score past 150 for the Largo side. Michie would remain stranded on a well-played 43* however as the Largo side were dismissed for 155, a 44-run defeat.
After recent good performances against the leagues top 3, Largo will be a little disappointed they couldn’t back those displays up to get the win here, but some good performances throughout the side still give cause for positivity going in to their next match, at home to Falkland 3s.
