Largo 2s welcomed their local neighbours from Falkland on Saturday as they faced their 3rd XI in a SPCU division 3 tie. Brent Bentley captained the Largo side and after losing the toss his side were asked to field first.

Largo opened with Hamish Sneddon and Stevie Warrender with the ball, and against an understrength Falkland side immediately found success, Sneddon bowling Roff and Barclay to leave the visitors 3/2. Siriwardena was joined by Kirkbride and the pair put together a partnership to see off the openers after a few dropped chances, but were struggling to move the scoreboard along due to the tight Largo bowling effort. Miles and Bentley came in to the attack however and managed to take 3 quick wickets between them just before drinks including a good catch from Eilidh MacLeod to leave the Falkland side on 18/5.

After drinks Largo remained on top with Miles claiming 2 further wickets along with MacLeod also taking 2 of her own, including a sharp catch by Duncan at short cover, to leave the visitors on 37/9. Siriwardena though remained and along with Armstrong managed to put on a partnership of 31 for the final wicket to push the visitors score past 50 before Armstrong was the last player to go for 20 with Sneddon claiming his 3rd wicket. Falkland 68 all out with Siriwardena carrying his bat for a top scoring 26*. Largo also impressively avoiding any wides in their 37 over innings.

In reply, Largo opened with Wilkinson and Kamal Singh looking to negotiate the small total without alarm. Wilkinson got the scoreboard moving with 2 early boundaries before he was caught behind for 11 off the bowling of Armstrong via an inside edge. Brown joined Singh at the crease and moved the score along steadily against some accurate bowling especially from Skye Green for the visitors.

Both batters however found their scoring form son after and within 15 overs were within sight of the target. They had to negotiate 2 overs of impressive leg spin from 10-year-old debutant Ruaridh Green before in the end both remained as they passed the target with Singh 26* and Brown 25*, meaning a 9 wicket win for the Largo side.

Largo will be glad to get back to winning ways after last week’s disappointing results and will look to finish strong as they go in to their final 3 league fixtures in August, starting with a trip to Alloa to play Clackmannanshire 2s.
