1st XI remain winless in 2025 as batting collapses vs Kinloch

Brent Bentley18 May - 18:32

4 wickets for Barclay the highlight as 1st Xi continue to struggle.

Largo 1st XI went in search of their first win of the season as they visited Dundee and the new home of Kinloch. Hughes Gillin captained Largo and after winning the toss his side bowled first allowing them to see how the new astro wicket plays before their batting effort.

Aidan Brown and Merrington opened the bowling for Largo and despite Merrington bowling a good opening spell it was Aidan who would get the first wicket with Michie, making his first appearance of the year with the catch. Kinloch would move past 50 before a double strike from the change bowlers as Cusick removed Niazi caught behind by Das, before Michie would get a wicket for himself this time with Barclay taking the catch, Kinloch 62/3.

Kinloch known for their big hitting style would remain positive from this point but Barclay with his leg spin would prove to be a constant threat to their attack. Barclay though going at 9 runs an over would take 4 wickets including Razak for 50 with Das taking 2 quick stumpings to leave Kinloch on 116 at the half way point of the innings but 7 wickets down.

Kinloch’s lower order however would bring them back in to the game with Ahmed and Khan taking the score up to 183 in quick time. Cusick though would return to the attack and take a very sharp caught and bowled to remove Ahmed for 54 before finishing the innings at 183 off just 31 overs.

Cusick and Das opened the innings for Largo in reply and were dealt an early blow with the in form Cusick bowled through the gate for a duck in the first over by Amin, followed soon after by Das for 6 and Dorey for 3. A partnership between Gillin (32) and Coates (19) would move the Largo side past 50 but looking to up the run rate both would go caught in the deep as they became the first two of 5 wickets for Shafi.

From here the Largo reply, minus Brown who fell unwell in the first innings, never looked like getting near the target as they struggled on the astro wicket and ultimately fell to a disappointing 98 run defeat.

After being in a dominant position at half way in the first innings to fall to a heavy defeat will again be a frustration for the Largo side as they search for a winning formula in 2025. They will hope to get in to the winning column next week as they travel to Perth to play Perth Doo’cot 2s.
