An opening stand of 121 from Warrender and Cusick alongside a great all-round performance from Coates sees Largo past Masterblasters.

On Saturday, Largo entertained Masterblasters in only their 3rd home games of the season on a blustery day at East Drive. Captain Hughes Gillin lost the toss and Largo were asked to bowl first.

Opening the bowling with Rowley and Cusick, Largo would soon have not one but 2 early wickets both for Cusick, helped by sharp catches from Udayan and Rowley as Masterblasters were on the back foot from the start. The early wickets brought the dangerous Laghari to the crease but the opening bowlers would continue to keep things tight despite a few big hits from Laghari. The change bowlers of Gillin and Largo newcomer Jitender Gupta would continue Largo's strong start and just as it looked like Masterblasters would up the scoring rate Gupta would take his first Largo wicket getting Laghari caught behind by Warrender. Despite Gillin changing bowlers at regular intervals in search of wickets, Masterblasters would regroup and give themselves a platform to score in the last 10 overs and set a challenging total. Coates and Sneddon though would have other ideas with the pair picking up regular wickets and keeping the scoring rate down, Coates in particular showing himself as a genuine all-rounder once again taking 3 wickets in his 6 overs. Masterblasters would end on 193, a total well within Largo's reach in the conditions.

Without usual opener Das, Largo would open the batting with Warrender and Cusick and from the off ther pair scored steadily, punishing the bad ball and running well between the wickets as they reached their 50 partnership in just the 9th over. Masterblasters looked to break the partnership and changed their bowlers with regularity but both batters looked settled and would reach the drinks break with the score on 103 and well on track. Warrender would reach his 50 soon after with a thumping 6 over mid wicket but was then quickly dismissed for a well played 56. This wicket would trigger a quick fire collapse with 3 more wickets falling for just 9 runs with Cusick falling for 48 and both Rowley and Kriskinans falling cheaply. Gillin would join Sneddon and the pair steadied the innings and took Largo to within 35 of the winning line before Gillan would fall caught in the deep. Coates though was the next batter in and followed his strong bowling performance with 24* and alongside Sneddon (18*) would see Largo home, Coates finishing the game with a 6 to get the 1st XI to just their 2nd win of the season.

A great all round team performance from Largo in what they will hope will set them up for the games ahead. Next week they will be away again this time against St Modans.
