1st XI fall to defeat in Glenrothes as fielding woes continue in loss.

Brent Bentley6 Jul - 07:43

3 wickets for Cusick again the main contributor with the ball as Largo cant back up last weeks win.

Largo 1st XI travelled to Gilvenbank on Saturday to face Glenrothes, looking to build on last weeks victory in Aberdeen and move out of the bottom two in the Division 1. Hughes Gillin captained the Largo side and after losing the toss his side were asked to bat first in what looked a good pitch to bowl on.

Largo opened with usual openers Das and Cusick and the pair got their side off to a solid start, blunting the bowling from the home side as they managed to move past 50 for the first wicket. The pair moved to 66 before a double blow was delt by the Glenrothes side with Sautiyal dismissing Das for 37 followed quickly after by bowling Dom Coates for a duck.

Gillin joined Cusick and moved the score towards 100 before again the home side were able to pick up 2 wickets quickly with Tanveer picking up both, Cusick stumped for 28 before Gillin was bowled for just 17. The innings from here would fall in to a pattern of regular wickets falling for the Largo side as batsman struggled to get going in the conditions. Coates (2) and Rowley (4) would fall to Ahmed before the dismissal of Baddeley (27) sparked a quick end to the innings with only Sneddon (13) able to reach double figures. Largo finished on 159 all out, Sautiyal the main contributor for the home side with impressive figures of 5/30.

Largo in reply with the ball opened with Rowley and Cusick, and it was Cusick again who managed the early breakthrough continuing his good form in 2025 as he dismissed Tayyiub for 6, caught by Barclay. This early success however couldn’t be backed up with the home side pushing on towards 100 with the bowlers again being let down in the field as Largo continued to drop a number of catches. Ahmed would make it to 50 before Ben Coates managed to deceive him to get the 2nd wicket bowled for 59, followed soon after with Singh (45) trapped LBW by Merrington.

Cusick would return to the attack and take 2 further wickets to finish with 3/28 off his 9 over spell, however it was too late with Udayan’s late wicket of Coppisetty followed soon after by the winning runs for the home side as they won by 4 wickets with 14 overs to spare.

Largo will be again left to rue what might have been as their fielding cost them this season in a game that could have been very different, had these been taken. The loss now sets up what many would see as a now must win game against 8th placed Arbroath United 2s next week at East Drive.
