10th wicket partnership from Kinloch the difference in tight loss for 1st XI

10th wicket partnership from Kinloch the difference in tight loss for 1st XI

Brent Bentley24 May - 10:17

All round contributions from Barclay and 4 wickets for Rowley not quiet enough for a Largo win.

Largo continued on their early season travels with another away game, this time against Kinloch in Dundee.

Captain Gillin called correctly and chose to have a bowl first. Opening the bowling with Rowley and Gillin himself, Largo looked to build pressure from the start against an opposition who would look to score quickly from the start. Rowley would have his first of 4 wickets on the day in the 3rd over with Kriskinans taking a good catch running in from the mid wicket boundary. With Gillin giving little away at the other end the Kinloch batters would look to take the attack to Rowley and wickets would fall regularly with Udayan and Boother taking catches to have Kinloch 26/3 after 10 overs. Both bowlers would bowl through their overs with 3 more wickets falling including a run out from a sharp piece of fielding from Tom Boother and Gillin getting his deserved wicket with Warrender showing safe hands with a tough high catch in the deep. Kinloch reaching just 37/6 after 18 overs and Largo in a great position, Rowley finishing with figures of 4/22 and Gillin giving only 15 runs from his 9 overs. Largo change bowlers Barclay and Merrington would look to continue applying the pressure as Kinloch put together their first partnership of the innings with the Kinloch batters taking a liking to the pace of Merrington in particular. The partnership had taken the score onto 76 before the next wicket would fall with Barclay taking the first of 3 wickets for just 20 runs with Rowley taking the catch at slip. Two more quick wickets would fall and Kinloch were 9 down for just 90 and Largo sense the chance to get the innings over quickly. Kinlochs captain Shafi would have other ideas though, taking the attack to the Largo bowlers hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes, taking advantage of some shorter boundaries to take Kinloch to 162 before Warrender claimed the final wicket. A good effort in the field from Largo with another improved display in the field and a target they would have taken before the start of the innings.

Largo would open their reply with the returning Warrender and Das and would quickly find themselves in some trouble with Warrender caught behind for just 1. Rowley and Gillin would soon follow both bowled by Amin, Gillin seeing the ball deflect back onto his stumps in an unfortunate manner from just his second ball and Largo were 3 wickets down for just 14. Kriskinans would join Das at the crease looking to steady the ship, with Das hitting 3 boundaries to get the scoreboard moving in the right direction before he would fall for 13. Kriskinans, Cusick and Coates would all get starts to their innings with Coates striking 2 cracking 6s before all 3 would fall for 14 followed by Udayan for 4, Largo were now only half way to their target and 8 wickets down. Boother and Barclay were now at the crease and looked to build some pressure on the Kinloch bowlers with some good running mixed with some boundaries keeping the scoreboard moving the pair took largo to within 30 of the winning total and Largo had hope that they could pull off an unlikely win. This wasn’t to be the case though as Barclay was bowled for 28 and Merrington after getting his first runs of the season falling for 3 leaving Boother not out for a very well batted 22 and Largo falling short by 21 runs.

A great effort in the end from the tail end getting Largo close and a story of what might have been having had Kinloch 90/9.

Next week Largo have the first double header of the year, Forfarshire 2’s being the visitors to East Drive on Saturday as the 1s finally return to a home game followed by a trip to Arbroath on Sunday with the team looking to find a win to back up the recent performances.
