Narrow loss for Largo

Largo lose against 9 Down Boroughmuir

On another beautifully sunny day at East Drive Largo's 1st XI were looking for their first win of the new season against Boroughmuir. Captain Scott lost the toss and Largo were asked to bat with the visitors hoping the wicket would improve later on after overnight rain.

Opening the batting for Largo was Price and a welcome return for ex-captain Guy Robinson however Price was an early victim to experienced league veteran Gus Mclean for 0. This brought Harney to the crease and between himself and Robinson built a stable start to the Largo innings if slow on run rate due to the tight bowling of the opposition meaning Largo reached the midway point with only 40 on the board. Eventually with overs running out Robinson was dismissed for 36 and with Harney anchoring the innings Largo managed to get up to 131 off their 40 overs with Harney finishing on 53 NO. This represented a decent effort in comparison with other scores at East Drive this year however with a shorter outfield and good batting pitch the home side would have hoped for more.

Knowing they would need to bowl economically to win Largo opened up with Scott and Rintoul who did just that however with no luck in taking any wickets. The luck would soon change though for the Largo side with the introduction of Nick Baddeley, fresh from 4 wickets in the 2s last week managed to repeat this feet taking 4 for 23 off his 8 overs and meaning Largo were in with a very good shout of the win. The wickets continued to fall regularly thanks to some good work in the field with 2 run outs and part time wicket keeper Robinson taking 4 catches however with Largo just requiring 1 more wicket to win the home side managed to just get over the line with 17 from Boroughmuir's number 10 Venkataraman proving the difference in the end.

This was a good performance from the Largo side if not providing the first win captain Scott and his side would have wanted and they will be hoping to change that record next week when they travel to Trannent.
