Tough start to the season for the 1s

On a surprisingly warm and sunny day, Largo's 1st XI started off their season with a home game against Drummond Trinity. New captain Scott won the toss and decided to field first.

The captain opened the bowling with himself and outgoing captain Rintoul and started tightly against the visitors openers going at around 1 run an over with Rintoul also taking the early wicket of Davidson for 3. With no further early success in terms of wickets however the opposition began to take advantage of the good batting conditions. The change bowlers were struggling against the big hitting of Jain especially who would go on to score 87 before falling to Nick Baddeley. Baddeley would go on to take another wicket and Rintoul returned to take 2 more however by that time the visitors had racked up a sizeable score finishing on 258-7 off their 40 overs.

New vice captain Harney opened the batting with Price and they were met with some tight bowling with Harney becoming the first to go bowled for just 1. Despite starts from Wilson and Price, Largo would slip to 5 down with less than 50 on the board with the run rate at half way already looking out of site for the Largo side. An encouraging partnership between Gillin and A.Brown finished the innings, Gillin scoring 39 however Largo finished on 122-7 off their 40 overs and falling to defeat to the big hitters from Drummond Trinity. A disappointing start for the year but with some regulars to return for the team coming in the next few weeks they will hope to turn their fortunes around soon.
