Tough day at Grange Loan for the 2s
2nds vs Carlton 4s
Largo's 2nds travelled on Sunday to Grange Loan in Edinburgh to play Carlton's 4s looking to complete the double over Carlton after the 1s victory the day before.
Largo ended up in the field first and soon realised that they would have to bowl very well to keep the runs down on a good wicket with a lightning fast outfield. Bentley and Blake opened and went for 61 in the first 10 before Mowat and league debutant Crosby also couldnt find a breakthrough meaning at 20 overs Carlton were on 112-0 and a big score looked on the cards.
Captain Sneddon then introduced the youngster to the attack in Michie and Sadler with both bowling very well but being let down in the field by the catching before finally Michie made a breakthrough getting young Murray caught well by Crosby for 63. However for Carlton, Edwards was still at the crease and he reached his century and then his 150 in the final over with only a Mowat wicket and a run out giving further moments of cheer for the Largo side with Carlton finishing on 253-3 off their 40 overs.
In reply Largo knowing how good the batting conditions were opened with Sadler and Mowat and hoped for a big performance to chase down the runs. Sadler would however go early caught at slip for a duck bringing Sneddon to the crease who with Mowat made progress towards the total though not at the run rate required before he was dismissed by a great yorker by Macintyre for 20 leaving Largo at 48-2 off 13 overs.
This brought Crosby to the crease and along with Mowat and then Bentley looked at building the innings but with the run rate now looking out of possibility he was dismissed for 32 and Largo were looking for bonus points. A few more wickets fell with Blake, Gillin and Forno scoring 4 between them before Ben Michie came to the crease and along with Bentley began to score freely thanks to some good running. Bentley would reach his 50 in the final over but Michie's 19 in the partnership of 47 was vital to Largo reaching maximum bonus points by the time their innings finished on 178-8, losing by 75 runs.
It was a tough day though with some good individual performances against a good team for the 2s who will look to get back to winning ways next week at home to Old Contemptables.
