Century from Hughes brings victory for Largo

Carlton 3s home for the 1s

On another beautiful sunny day at East Drive, Largo welcomed Carlton's 3s and the opposition won the toss and chose to bowl.

Stand in skipper Harney opened with the in form Barclay and Warrander however Barclay was an early victim for a duck caught behind. He was replaced by Kinnear who along with Warrander pushed the score along well against some tight bowling before he fell for 20 shortly followed by C.Baddeley for 8. However this brought Hughes Gillin to the crease at number 5.

Immediately Warrander and Gillin began to get on top of the opposition bowling finding the shorter boundary especially with ease with Gillin in particular hitting a few big sixes in to the field. Warrander and Gillin both would pass 50 before in very unusual style Warrander middled a drive straight off Gillin's shoulder at the non-strikers end looping a catch back to the keeper, meaning Warrander was gone for 74. This however left the scene set for Hughes to see if he could reach a maiden century for the club and he did so in the final over finishing on a well played 103NO, and hitting Largo to a very strong 245-4 off their 40 overs.

In reply Largo knew they would need to bowl well though to win and started well keeping the runs down and Matt Baddeley taking the wicket of Yusaf for 7. The wickets though start to come with the introduction of Chris Baddeley and Gillin with Chris taking an initial 3 wickets to dismiss the Carlton top order before returning to take another with Gillin again staring with 3 wickets to dismiss the visitors for 198 in the 39th over for a well deserved victory by 56 runs.

A great effort on the day from the Largo boys at home with Hughes Gillin the star with a great all round performance. Largo will hope for a repeat of this level of performance when they travel to Drummond Trinity next weekend.
