LARGO SUNDAY XI MAKE IT A CLEAN SWEEP
Largo Sunday XI welcomed Gargunnock
to East Drive on a nice but breezy day. Young skipper Nadeem Ali lost the toss
and the Largo side were asked to field first on a typically hard batting wicket.
Gargunnock openers, R.Fuller and
A.Lloyd got off to a good start in the opening overs pushing singles around
comfortably. It was the 6th over before the breakthrough was made
when Lister bowled a fine delivery which Fuller (12) tried to cut away but was
caught by a superb diving catch by Fowler at gully. Overs ticked by and both
Largo opening bowlers finished there spells, Lister taking 1 wicket and Rintoul
bowling with good pace but sadly wasn’t able to find a way past the batsmen.
The skipper then introduced Marshall and debutant Brown into the bowing attack
and it immediately brought success as both bowled good tight lines and were
rewarded. Brown took 4 wickets aided by two catches from A. Ali and ending on
figures of 4 for 22. Marshall also took two catches including a bullet hit
straight back at him off his own bowling to dismiss Cross (8). Arfan, Anderson,
A.Ali and Black (another enthusiastic, new member to the club) all took 1 wicket
each as Gargunnock’s batsmen came and went without troubling the scoreboard
ending on 111 all out.
Largo chasing 112 to win went out to
bat feeling positive that a win was on its way. Dakin and Fowler strode out but
it was only the 2nd over when Fowler was run out by a good piece of
fielding in the slips. N.Ali was next in feeling confident after a good knock on
Saturday. Both batsmen were settling down and started playing their shots before
N.Ali was stumped for 25 by some sharp wicket keeping. A few overs later Largo
suffered a mini collapse, Dakin (24) was caught by the bowling of Naris, then
Lister(0) and N. Rintoul (13) soon followed as they were bowled by Bielby,
the pick of the bowlers ending on figures of 2 for 18. A.Ali played a
sensible innings ending on 22 not out and Arfan finished the game off in style
by hitting a massive 6 straight back over the bowlers head and ended on 23 not
out.
Largo win by five wickets in an enjoyable social game. This
capped off a tremendous weekend for the club with four wins out of four. The 1st
and 2nd XI both winning their respective league fixtures, the U15
team beat Stirling in a Scottish Cup tie and the Sunday XI make it a clean
sweep.
