the key to victory
A
rare East Drive appearance allowed the 4th XI drivers to leave the Sat
(Steve?) Nav at home.
3 Father
and Son combos featured for Largo, together with 2 brothers. Captain
Anderson (Snr.) continuing his return slowly.
West
Linton were the visitors and with a few late arrivals, they agreed to bat
first. Brown (Snr.) opened down the hill, with Ahsan up the hill
........ 8 overs for 11 runs set the tone. Brown (Jnr.) replaced Snr.
and immediately showed him how to do it by bowling Voas with the first
ball of his spell. Fergus Bevens took first change up the hill and
ended with 3 for 16 from his 4 overs. All other players bowled
tightly, before the introduction of debutant Grewar (Snr.), whose spell
ended proceedings with 3.1 overs, 4 for 8 ......... the innings ending on
97.
A
hearty tea was devoured, during which a shower spiced up the wicket.
Largo
opened with Anderson (Jnr.) and Ahsan - they put on 24, before Ahsan was
caught for 11, brother Zaman followed soon after by running himself out for
4. This brought Grewar (Snr.) to the crease in partnership with
Anderson (Jnr.) ........ a pupil/teacher partnership (courtesy Madras
College) ........ despite "Mr.Grewar" not being easy to say in a
pressure batting situation, these 2 took the score comfortably to 55, before
the young opener perished LBW. Grewar (Jnr.) came and went quickly,
but thereafter it was a serene process to accumulate the runs required as
Steve Black (on seasonal debut) stroked an unbeaten 17, together with Grewar
(Snr.) (34) ........... the total was reached in the 36th over.
This
was a superb all round performance against a team with many very good
players. The effort in the bowling and fielding was very impressive,
with no respite in the pressure applied. A calm batting display
against decent bowling then saw the team home. The progress over the
season has been tremendous.
Unfortunately,
no game next week, but we look forward to continuing this good form over the
rest of the season.
