Winner takes All

What a game to have for the last one of the league season, the league committee could not have planned it better, this was the true top of the table clash, in top spot Largo, with Kirk Brae only just behind, this was a real Winner takes all game, who ever wins will be crowned League Champions

Both Clubs selected their teams within the Spirit of the game, Largo had kept their faith with the young guns Eland, Donald, Byrne, Robertson, Brewster & Sneddon, 5 of which are under 15, Kirk Brae won the toss & elected to Bat

Largo opened the bowling with Andrew Robertson & Ian Brown against Kirk Brae’s Thomson & their Captain Futcher, after the opening exchanges the score was on 24 for no wicket, then Largo’s Captain Ian Brown decided to ring the changes, with Robbie Eland & Ross Brewster being brought into the attack, resulting in Eland taking the wicket of Futcher for 10, this brought Seditas to the wicket, with the score on 27 for 1 in the 11 over. With tight bowling & again outstanding fielding by Largo, which started  to increased the pressure on Kirk Brae to up the run rate to a level that gave them a target to defend, wickets fell in the 23 over to Nairne bowling Opener Thomson for a fine 34 with the score on 61, Nairne then bowled Tahir for 1, in his next over with the score on 63, Pearse joined Seditas who’s partnership put on 54 in 11 overs, before Pearse was caught by Matthews off Brown for 16, then quickly followed by Mehta for 0, two ball later, so with 4 over’s left Kirk Brae were 120 for 5 & looking for a Target of a run-a-ball ( 144), Raja was run-out for 6 in the last over, by the working combination of Eland & Brown & they finished their inning on 139 for 6, with Seditas finishing on 63 not out, with highlights of Largo’s bowling being:- Brown 8-0-32-2, Nairne 8-4-14-2, Eland 4-1-7-1;

Tea was taken which was supplied by all the younger Largo players as a thank you to the “OLDER” ones for their support during the season & a grand tea it turned out to be;

Largo started the chase with Alistair Matthews & Robbie Eland, with Eland receiving an un-player able delivery & being bowled by Sedatis, Largo 4 for 1 in the 2nd over, Callum Donald joined Mathews & wasted no time in hitting his first runs to the boundary for 4, this pair took the score onto 39 before Mathews was out bowled by Raja for a fine 21 ( the first time he has opened for Largo ), Wickets started to fall quickly at this stage of the game with only Donald (19) & Brown (18) moving the score on towards the target of 140, with the score on 86 for 7 off 21 overs, Largo required 54 of 19 overs to win with 3 wickets in hand, the tension was high, the pressure was mounting, the crowd was increasing with the news, that the game was finely balanced, Nairne & Robertson are at the crease, slowly after 4 maidens in a row, the scoreboard starts to turn again, 104 off 30, 114 off 32, 125 off 35 & with Andrew Robertson hitting the winning run in the 38 over, Largo had won the game to be crowned Champion of Division 8, in their first season of league cricket, credit must go to the whole club for supporting this development team & to all the players who contributed to the team during the season, by the way Nairne finished on 30 not-out & Robertson scored 13 also not-out, well done “boys”, What a way to finish the season.

The News was received at the Sayer’s wedding, later that evening to great joy & celebration:
