Third Time Lucky for
Largo 2's
Largo 2nd XI welcomed near neighbours Dunfermline
2nd XI to a sunny East Drive on Saturday, hoping to get their first win of the
2006 season in a game sponsored by JKF Ltd , Leven. Largo won the toss and
elected to field, captain Seath was welcoming back Deemi Ali, Dick Dakin and
David Galloway to his side and it was young Ali along with the other junior
Brent Bentley who opened the bowling for Largo.
The Dunfermline openers started in a positive
fashion and took the game to the young Largo bowlers but they stuck to their
task. Ali had a catch dropped and Largo thought, here we go again, change
bowler Steve Bentley also had one put down in slip before young Bentley
finally got the breakthrough with Cook for the second week running showing the
Largo boys how to catch making it 37 for 1 . The loss of the first wicket
brought Miller to the crease who had scored a century the previous week, he
went about the Largo attack in a devastating fashion, Seath had Sharp caught
behind by Dakin for 29 runs to have the opposition 59 for 2. The score
however was to move onto 128 runs before Cook took the wicket of the stylish
Miller, trapping him LBW with his first ball for 68 runs. Three more
wickets fell for the addition of only 23 runs putting Dunfermline on 151 runs
for 6 wickets in the 35th over but a partnerships at the end by Manaf,
Davidson and Brown moved the score along to an impressive 246 for 8.
Largo had fielded a lot better than the previous
week and had stuck to the task with Cook taking 3 for 36, Seath 2 for 39
and Brent Bentley 2 for 40, it was now down to chasing this daunting total.
Largo opened with Tocher as he had to leave early
and he went about his business in a brisk manner, ably supported by
Braid the score moved to 58 in the 12th over before Braid was run out. Dakin
making his league debut joined Tocher and the score moved to 78 before Dakin
too was run out as Tocher was perhaps trying to rush things to much knowing
he was leaving early. The exciting Yousaf joined the fray but again he
was a casualty of a rash call by Tocher who then had to retire on 46 runs. With
the score on 97 for 3 from 20 overs plus Tocher retired Cook and young
Nadeem Ali went out to the middle with still plenty to do. These two set
about an indifferent attack in blistering style with young Ali the main
aggressor ably supported by Cook. Cook eventually fell for 35 runs with
the score on 170 from 30 overs, debutant Galloway joined Ali and these two played superb
to take the score to 217 runs in the 37th over. Galloway scored 29 runs before
he perished, the quick wickets of Rintoul and Seath followed leaving it
to sixteen year old Ali supported by the slightly older Bentley
senior to see Largo home with 6 overs to spare, Ali fittingly scoring the
winning runs with a four and taking his total to 62 not out , an innings that
showed the talent this young man has and it was a pleasure to watch.
The pick of the Dunfermline attack was Davidson
taking 3 for 52. Largo travel to Dunfermline Carnegie next week buoyed by this
great win to play a side undefeated after three games.
