Largo 2nd XI began the second half of their East of Scotland Division 6 campaign with a home fixture against Edinburgh side, Kirk Brae with match ball sponsorship provided by Henderson Loggie, Chartered Accountants, Dundee.
Largo had a tremendous start when Seath bowled the opposition skipper and leading league scorer Steve Colvin with the second ball of the game. Soon Bentley induced Thomson to drive to mid-off where Dakin took a fine catch at full stretch over his head and when Seath produced a replica delivery to his earlier one Hurst too was clean bowled. At 38 for 3 and with sixteen overs gone Nairne and Galloway took up the attack and immediately Singh failed to spot Nairne’s slower ball and was trapped lbw. Sangster, another high scorer in the league, played some powerful shots but Dakin swooping to his right at first slip, having been moved slightly wider only moments earlier, took a magnificent catch off Nairne to curtail the Kirk Brae batsmen’s innings. Galloway gained deserved reward when he bowled Shaw and Jim Barclay’s throw on the turn accounted for Mort. In between times Nairne clean bowled the others to finish with a five-wicket haul thus dismissing Kirk Brae for 83 in just over 30
overs.
In the Largo reply Bentley produced two lovely shots for four but, rather unluckily, deflected a full toss on to his stumps. However, that was to be Kirk Brae’s only reward as Guy Robinson raced to 50 with some sumptuous strokes and seven fours while Dakin unselfishly supported him as Largo accelerated to their target in just 13.3
overs.
After last weeks disappointment this was a splendid return to form for Largo against a strong batting side with newcomer Kier Doe proving to be a fine fielder. Largo remain top of Division 6 and next week entertain the other Fife side in the league, Falkland 3rd XI.
Kirk Brae 83 all out (Sangster 26, Hurst 18, Nairne 5-19, Seath 2-20)
Largo 2nd XI 84 for 1 (G. Robinson 52 not out)
