Rain Spoils Largo Attack
Largo 2XI travelled to play Falkland 3XI on Saturday for a
match sponsored by T Fleming Homes Duns.
Loosing the toss Largo were asked to Bat on an artificial
wicket. Captain Fleming decided to
go with a trial opening partnership of Dakin and Steve Bentley this seemed to go
well with Bentley in particular hitting the loose early delivers for four.
As the Falkland bowlers got into their stride Dakin fell first being
trapped LBW with a score of 5. Bentley
growing in confidence began to punish the bad ball and with partner Guy Robinson
this pair put on 83 runs before Guy (55) was caught by Farrell at Mid off.
Tocher joined Bentley at the crease but was unfortunately
bowled for a duck. This brought the lucky Nick Robinson to the middle playing
his usual unorthodox style he was dropped 3 times before scoring a run, Falkland
must have regretted these drops as he proceeded to score a quick fire 39 before
being bowled. Bentley fell soon
after with a well constructed 33, the tailenders for Largo all chipped in with
useful runs and Largo finished there innings on 188.
The Largo Bowlers started well restricting Falkland to just under 3 an over. With the rain clouds looming over the Lomond Hills finishing the match looked ever more doubtful however the rain stayed fairly light and Largo proceeded with the innings in the 12 over Hobday forced Sirawardena to play a loose stroke which Dakin easily caught at 1st slip. Sayer and Seath applied more pressure to Falkland taking a wicket each. The rain eventually intervened in the 79 over forcing the game to be abandoned however, a results was calculated with Largo obtaining a Winning Draw. Next week Largo 2XI entertain Penicuik 3XI.
