Winning Draw for Largo

Largo 2nd XI travelled to Alloa on Saturday to play Clackmannan County 2 XI in a match sponsored by Balmashie Holiday Cottages.

Loosing the toss Largo was asked to bat on a firm track with a fast outfield.  Dakin and Sayer set about the Clackmannan bowling attack with the early overs going for 3 runs.  Sayer (6) eventually  popping a loose ball up to be caught by Band.  Ageless Barnes joined Dakin at the crease, and this pair put on a 62 run partnership, before Dakin fell on 34, Barnes fell shortly after for 38.  Cook then joined the inform Galloway, and this pair did further damage with Cook hitting a quick fire 22 before he was heading back to the pavilion, but it was Galloway who severely punished the Clackmannan attack. Just as last week he played sensible to earn his 50  before he then changed up a gear to punish every loose ball delivered to him.  His partnership with Gibson put on further 70 runs on the Largo total to take it to 233, eventually Galloway was run out on 85 trying to push 2.  Seath join Gibson and put on a further 14 runs to take the Score to 247 for five of 42 overs, before acting Captain Fleming declared.

Largo's chances of winning this game suffered after the first over when opener Seath left the field suffering from dizzy spells.  Sayer replaced him but Davies and Tranter worked the ball well and with a man short they continually found gaps and produced a useful 110 run partnership.  Davies fell on 58 being caught by Gibson Davies was fortunate not to be caught on three earlier occasions but  the speed of the ball and the thickness of the edge was just enough to beat wickey Gibson.  Once the break through was made Largo began to make some in roads into the batting of Clackmannan.   But with Seath missing bowling had to be spread out between Barnes and young Brent Bentley with Bentley imparticulary bowling well for his first time in league cricket. With overs running out Bentley senior took three wickets to give Largo a glimmer of victory but it was just to late and Clackmannan finished on 171 for 5 which was 15 runs short of the loosing draw point,  giving Largo 18 points.

Next week Largo entertain St Modans which is a must win game if they are to keep their promotion hopes alive.
